The pump body used to be red and smooth but due to high failure rate with overheating problems, the design of the motor has been changed to allow a rear fan to cool the pump along the fins whilst in operation. If you are looking to replace your old pump, we would strongly advise going with this newer design as it is an exact fit from the plastic end and it has proven to be more reliable than the older red one.
